GILL GAYLE
PRODUCTION DESIGN

About Me
I have decades of experience in the entertainment industry as a production designer and indie film producer, working with a long list of iconic artists, directors, and brands. I’ve worked on music videos, feature films, network TV, award-winning projects, and live events. As production designer, my job is to bring the director’s, artist’s, or brand’s vision to life within the confines of the project’s budget and timeline. I’ve recreated a Saudi Bazaar in an alley in downtown Memphis, overseen the creation of 217 sets built within seven months representing three distinct time periods for one production, and —within 24 hours— created a lakeside house so realistic that the Denver building authority red tagged it as unpermitted, residential construction.
I’ve worked on projects with art budgets in the millions for a 60-second spot down to nothing but sweat equity and favors. The tools of my trade include collaboration, organization, delegation, and flexibility, as much as they include creativity and passion for making every project a success. I have managed teams as large as 160 and often oversee multiple builds at once. I know the importance of clear communication, valuing relationships with contractors, vendors, team members, and artists, and helping my team grow their expertise.
I've worked as a freelance art director / production designer since 1994 overseeing design, fabrication, installation, staffing, scheduling, and budgeting for a wide range of TV, film, commercial, music video, and live event projects. I ensure the director's vision within financial and scheduling constraints running the gamut of budgets and lead times. I meet all regulatory guidelines for health, safety, and government compliance. To that end, I have collaborated with engineers, animal wranglers, special effects teams, stunt coordinators, park rangers, fire officials, and city inspectors.
I'm a lifelong storyteller and love being a part of the creative process. Let’s make cool art together!
